Problem with Firefox Sync package

I've just installed the brand new version of Firefox Sync (aka weave version 1.3-13) within ladistribution. The exposed Custom Server URL looks like: http://mydomain/ladistrib/weave/ but every time I try to copy/paste this URL in the Firefox Sync Extension, the form complains that the URL is not valid.

Any idea?

Hi,

It seems it's an issue with the wording used in the new version of the Firefox Extension.

You need to answer "I already use Sync on another computer" even if you have not used it before. Answering "I never used Sync" lead to a registration process and you already have an account :-)

Does-it works for you ?

well.. When I fill up the the form after the "I already use Sync on another computer", I obtain an new error "Server badly configured" (translated from French "Serveur mal configuré") (the Cutom Server URL seems to be correctly parsed)

Can you post an extract of the Firefox Sync (ex Weave) log. It's named weave/verbose-log.txt and located in your Firefox Profile folder.

Before seing this log, i would say there is good chances that the URL http://DOMAIN/PATH/weave/1.0/USERNAME/info/collections is sending a bad response. What do you see when you try this URL?

My browser asks me a login/passwd (apache htaccess) and then I obtain a "File not found" error.

I believe this is a false "File not found" sent by Firefox because it finds the content too short.

View the source, i believe there is a number here. If i'm right, what is it?

If I grep '11' in the ladstrib/firefox-sync code, I obtain:

We're doing some progress :-) I now need you to edit the file sync/1.0/index.php and temporary add the following code:

print_r($_SERVER);
exit;

Then go again on http://DOMAINNAME/PATH/ladistrib/weave/1.0/USERNAME/info/collections and give me back the output.

I believe the fix is not too far now :-)

The problem come from the double slash in SCRIPT_URI. I don't know where it come from and have no idea how you can fix it on your side.

This is the reason i added a fix in our libraries:
http://ladistribution.net/trac/changeset/546

It's already available on edge in lib-ld 0.4-41, in short you just have to update.

Hope it will works for you and you'll not encounter another problem :-)

I've just upgraded.. I still have the problem:

- The firefox-sync form still returns an error

- http://...firefox-sync/1.0/USER/info/collections returns a Firefox "file not found" (CRTL-U - "Database unavailable")

- If I add the print_r(..) I obtain the correct URIs:

Uhm, the fix was not supposed to correct the URLs a this level, anyway ...

The problem is now on the SQL side. The problem leading to the 'Database unavailable' error should be logged in your server logs.

Do you have access to it?

By the way, the database connection seems to be ok for the other products (wordpress,...)

Firefox Sync use PDO while most applications are using mysql or mysqli. So, the problem may be PDO related, we'll see.

I'm still checking the logs with my webadmin...

Actually, if I browse the my database, there are only two *empty* tables firefox_sync_xxxxx_{collections,wbo}. Can you confirm me ?

Seems tables are ok.

There is a quicker alternative than waiting for your webadmin.

You can edit sync/1.0/index.php and add the following near line 390, in the catch statement.

echo $e->getTraceAsString();
exit;

Then edit sync/1.0/weave_storage/mysql.php and add the following where the error originated:

echo $exception->getMessage();
exit;

Ok.. I think I have identified the problem (related to Pierre-Antoine's post http://ladistribution.net/en/forums/topic/can-not-use-mysql-with-non-standard-port).

Let me finish my tests and I'll give you more details..

The problem is not yet solved but I think I can fix an intermediate bug:

In LD, I've a database connection on a specific port 'localhost:3336'. In a fresh firefox-sync install, the port has been removed (in default_constants.php)

if I edit the file to add the port, the PDO connections are valid and I can connect to the server within the firefox extension.

Well, I just added explicit mysql port support in Firefox Sync package. http://ladistribution.net/trac/changeset/548

I don't understand your current situation so i think you better install again the package from scratch (for instance, default_constants.php is not used for the mysql configuration and the port syntax was not supposed to work this way with PDO).

And in case, you reproduce the problem above, go to the URL http://DOMAIN/PATH/ladistrib/firefox-sync/1.0/PATH/storage/keys/pubkey and send back what you see.

Ok Post 1:

- Fresh LD install with a custom DB connection (localhost:3336 + socket in .htaccess (cf Pierre-Antoine's Post -NB: PA is my officemate;)-)
- Fresh Firefox-sync install (rev 1.3-15)

=> Error code "11" on http://DOMAIN/PATH/ladistrib/firefox-sync/1.0/PATH/info/collections

If I edit the default_constants.php in firefox-sync to "echo" the db['port'], the variable is correctly set to "3336".

A.s.a.p., I'll track the errors in the weave_storage/mysql.php...

I'm lost again :-/ The error code 11 is not supposed to be a database issue but a path issue. The kind of error fixed earlier in this thread.

If you confirm the PDO unix_socket error, can you try to fix it somehow by hand? If you find a workaround, i will do my best to support it cleanly in our codebase.

For example, maybe passing the unix_socket parameter to the PDO constructor will do the job. See: http://php.net/manual/en/ref.pdo-mysql.connection.php

Or maybe just use your htaccess hack and set the pdo_mysql.default_socket value.

If I add the unix_socket in the PDO, the connection works fine.. If you agree, let us postpone this discussion on socket/port problems (which seem to be specific to my server) and go back to the 'pubkey' problem presented above.

If I go to http://DOMAIN/PATH/ladistrib/firefox-sync/1.0/PATH/storage/keys/pubkey I obtain a "record not found" (index.php:150)

I don't know if it is related but the mysql tables "*_wbo" and "*_collections" are still empty.

A 404 on storage/keys/pubkey seems normal behavior before the first synchronisation.
